A brown Ford Ranger pickup truck overturned on Queen Kaahumanu Highway near the intersection with Kuakini Highway Tuesday morning.

The truck, which was lying on its top around 10:30 a.m. on the mauka edge of the highway, was damaged on both sides. Heading north on the highway, the vehicle apparently encountered a line of stopped traffic and swerved to avoid rear-ending the car in front of it, according to the Hawaii Police Department. The truck struck the embankment and rolled over.

Police closed one lane and directed traffic around the scene while emergency vehicles responded.

A man from the truck was equipped with a neck brace and was able to walk to the ambulance, where he was loaded onto a stretcher. A second individual was also transported to Kona Community Hospital with minor injuries.

The lane closure ended at 10:50 a.m.
