Bank offers credit scores, microchip card

Bank of Hawaii now provides free FICO Scores for its consumer credit cards so customers can see their credit scores via the bank’s customer service website and receive email alerts anytime Barclaycard is notified that a score has changed.

Bank of Hawaii is the first financial institution in the state and one of the first in the nation to offer this benefit as well as a new travel alert feature that eliminates the need to make a phone call to advise the credit card company of upcoming travel plans. The alert can now be handled online.

In addition, the recently launched Hawaiian Airlines, Bank of Hawaii branded card is the first chip card offered by a Hawaii bank which helps authenticate credit transactions and protect account information.

Tony DeSanctis, Bank of Hawaii senior vice president and credit card manager, said “As opposed to a magstripe card, a chip card is especially beneficial for travelers since they are widely used in much of Europe, Asia, and other popular destinations and will become increasingly widespread in the U.S.”

Xoom Corporation launches marketing campaign in Hawaii

Digital money transfer provider Xoom Corporation has launched a dedicated advertising campaign on Filipino television, radio and in print to reach Filipinos residing in Hawaii.

“Thousands of immigrants have come to the United States from the Philippines over the years and settled in Hawaii, where they have established a strong cultural affinity and proudly express their Filipino identity,” said Pia Guter, Xoom’s director of marketing for the Philippines. “The market has traditionally been served by offline, inconvenient cash-to-cash operators, where consumers often waste precious time waiting in line to send money. With Xoom, people can send money to their loved ones anytime, anywhere from their desktop, smartphone or tablet device.”

Xoom recently celebrated 10 years of business from the United States to the Philippines. Since December of 2003, Xoom has partnered with the Philippines’ largest banks and pawnshops, launched ground-breaking initiatives and introduced a mobile app and SMS texting for those sending money and their recipients.
