Dwayne Childress

Dwayne Owens Childress, 71, of Ocean View died April 26, 2014, at his home. Born Aug. 15, 1942, in Albuquerque, N.M., he retired as senior chief electrical engineer from the Coast Guard.

A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. May 4 at Manuka State Park.

He is survived by wife, Jewel Childress of Ocean View; sons, Doyle Childress of Kailua-Kona, Eugene (Elanezia) Childress of Brazil; daughter, Dena (Wayne) Eckstrom of Petaluma, Calif.; stepdaughters, Sarah (Robert) Hilliard of Kailua-Kona, Gwendolyn (Lester) Brent of Volcano; brother, Paul (Mona) Childress of Arizona; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew.

Sadako Minaai

Sadako Minaai, 98, of Hilo died April 23, 2014, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Feb. 21, 1916, in Hilo, she was a retired clerk typist for the state Department of Social Services and Housing and member of Wainaku Jodo Mission Kumiai.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. May 5 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 3 p.m. service. Family requests no monetary donations or flowers .

She is survived by sisters, Ella Minaai Fujie and Ellen Minaai Nakagawa, both of Hilo; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Bruce Cook

Bruce Edward Cook, 69, of Kailua-Kona died April 25, 2014. Born Aug. 21, 1944, in Muskegon, Mich., he was a life insurance agent, prior owner of Aloha Financial Services; member of the Keauhou Country Golf Club, The Legends of Golf Group, Wolf Hounds and Hokulia Golf Club; ARC of Kona board member and Keauhou Estates board president.

Services will be held later.

He is survived by wife, Mei Cook of Kailua-Kona; son, Bruce Cook Jr. of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Shelly (Toby) Eyestone and Hope Sarber, both of Muskegon, Mich.; brother, Raymond (Wanda) Cook of Kansas City, Kan.; sisters, Shirley Van Sumen of Traverse City, Mich., Francis Cook of Lansing, Mich., Marcia Cook and Deborah Cook, both of Portland, Ore., eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Ora Nishimuta

Ora Louvenia (Strong) Nishimuta, 86, died April 23, 2014. Born Feb. 13, 1928, in Chelsea, Okla., she was a former social worker for Hawaii County and former real estate agent.

She is survived by children, Michael Nishimuta of Aviano, Italy, Stephen Nishimuta of San Diego, James Nishimuta of Los Angeles, Juli Nishimuta of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Alice Barber of Onalaska, Texas; brother, Samuel Strong Jr. of San Diego; three nieces; two nephews.

Henry Acedillo

Henry “Naka” Acedillo, 78, of Hawi died April 18, 2014, at home. Born July 1, 1935, in Kohala, he was a retired construction heavy equipment operator, Army veteran and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Betty Acedillo of Hawi; son, Lawrence Acedillo of Las Vegas; daughters, Stephanie (Jason) Hanano and Leslie (Robin) Ashimine, both of Hawi; brothers, Zoilo Kupukaa and Manuel (Helen) Acedillo, both of Honolulu, Walter (Tessie) Rickard Jr. of Kaneohe, Oahu; sister, Violet Lee of Honolulu; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Edison Reyes

Edison “Eddie” Navarro Reyes, 68, of Captain Cook died April 25, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 5, 1946, in Pinili, Philippines, he was a retired kitchen helper for Kona Community Hospital and member of Christ Church Episcopal Kealakekua.

He is survived by wife, Linda Bagay of Captain Cook; daughter, Nina Mahor of the Philippines; son, Mark (Kyung Mi) Reyes of San Diego; sisters, Precy Mahor and Josephine Reyes, both of the Philippines; brothers, Efren Reyes and Nelson Reyes, both of the Philippines; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Kenji Tanaka

Kenji Tanaka, 84, of Hilo died April 15, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 17, 1929, in Papaikou, he was retired from McDonnell Douglas and a member of Hilo Meishoin.

He is survived by wife, Tokiko Tanaka of Hilo; daughter, Janice Tanaka of HIlo; brothers, Bruce (Toyoko) Tanaka and Walter (Frances) Tanaka, both of Hilo, George (Lynn) Tanaka of Honolulu; sisters, Setsumi (James) Inouye and Grace (Roy) Moriyama, both of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Shizuno Sadanaga

Shizuno Sadanaga, 95, of Papaikou died April 23, 2014, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. She was born in Mountain View.

She is survived by son, Garret Sadanaga of California; daughters, Eileen Hirata and Marlene (Scott) Oda, both of Hilo; brother, Mitsuo Nakayama of Honolulu; one grandchild.

George Masao Horike, 76, of Hilo died April 27, 2014, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Feb. 11, 1938, in Hilo, he was a computer technician for AT&T and member of Kaiwiki Community Association.
