Slack key guitarist Chris Yeaton and world class Italian guitarist Antonio Calogero will offer a blend of world music today at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, Ballroom No. 1.
Yeaton is the protege of kumu Keola Beamer and John Keawe. He has delighted audiences across the country with his unique humor and beautiful stylings.
Calogero’s rigorous classical guitar training imbues his passionate performances. A bright light in the new generation of acoustic guitarists and composers, Calogero draws from folk, jazz, classical, and international influences. He has performed with some of the world’s finest musicians and possesses the poetic sensibility of the Mediterranean.
As an emerging slack key guitarist in 2001, Yeaton, attended music workshops conducted by Beamer and acoustic fingerstyle guitarist Alex de Grassi. He found there were an abundance of attendees who expressed concern about the lack of opportunity to present their musical abilities in formal venues. Also, audiences eager to enjoy entertainment were often underserved. Inspired to create opportunities for artists, Chris Yeaton founded the Woodsong Acoustics Group & Mele Koa in 2001. The Woodsong Acoustics Group concert series has become an ongoing effort to bring musicians and audiences together and showcase a caliber of music that calls for formal venues.
