West Hawaii Battalion Chief Steve Loyola said the material that spilled was waste oil and solvent. No one was injured when the tanker truck tipped on to its left side and blocked both travel lanes. Two fire companies used an absorbent to clean up the leaking fluids and the remaining unbroken drums of material were removed from the truck, Fire Department officials said.
Mamalahoa Highway, near the Saddle Road junction, reopened at about 8 p.m. Thursday, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense.
