Members of the Kailua-Kona Seniors Club strolled through town Wednesday morning for their annual Easter Bonnet Parade.
Club members donned festive hats in pastel colors, featuring flowers and other holiday-themed decorations. They also bestowed awards on several members for their finely embellished chapeaus. The club has been holding the parade for nearly a decade.
Nearly 50 people participated this year.
According to club members, Easter bonnets and parades date back more than 100 years. During the Depression and after Lent, a new hat during Easter was a luxury in which many women and girls indulged. Parades were a chance for people to strut in their finery to, from and after church services.
