HONOLULU — An award-winning jazz band from Honokaa High School is touring Oahu this month.

State Rep. Mark Nakashima said Wednesday the Honokaa Jazz Band from his district will entertain seniors at 15 Craigside in Nuuanu on April 25.

The following Sunday, they’ll serve lunch and perform jazz at the Institute for Human Services, which offers shelter to homeless in Honolulu.

The band is also scheduled to perform at the Royal Hawaiian Center Waikiki.

The Band received a GRAMMY Signature Schools Award in 2012. The recognition is given to high school music programs that are keeping music programs despite budget problems.

Honokaa is in a rural community on the Big Island’s Hamakua Coast. The high school also serves neighboring communities including Waimea, Kawaihae and Paauilo.
