Hit the jackpot
The Hawaii Island Cutting Horse Association will present the Jackpot Show at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Parker Ranch Arena. Events begin with cutting, followed by cowhorse and reining. Concession sales will benefit the Hawaii High School Rodeo Association.
Konawaena golf benefit
The ninth annual Konawaena Foundation golf tournament is scheduled for May 3 at Makalei Golf Club. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and shotgun start at 8.
The format is two-person scramble, with each person hitting at least six tee shots. Big Island Honda will give away a new Honda for the first hole-in-one on a designated par-3; there will be prizes on other par-3s.

Honokaa seeking football coaches
Honokaa High School is accepting applications for varsity football head coach and assistants.
Applications are available from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. school days, in the main office, and can be delivered to the main office or the office of the athletic director in the gym.
Deadline for applications is April 25.

Parks and Recreation activities
Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering after-school programs for youth.
The “board and table games” activity, for ages 5 to 14, is planned from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, April 16 to May 14, at Kekuaokalani Gym. Register by April 30.
The “sports and games” activity, for ages 9 to 14, is planned from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, April 14 to May 15, at the gym and Old Kona Airport Park fields. Register by April 24.

First Tee’s new session
The First Tee Hawaii Program will start a session Sunday at Makalei Golf Club. Registration for the one-hour program is set from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at the clubhouse. The session is for those ages 7 to 18; the fee for the year is $25 per child. Clubs are provided for beginners.
First Tee Program covers themes such as learning about respect.

April 19: The Hapuna Beach Training Time Trial starts at 8 a.m. at the entrance to the park. Registration for the 12.7-mile event will be from 7 to 7:40 at the mauka end of the parking lot.

Horseshoe club extends a ‘hand’
Kona Horseshoe Pitchers Club will hold its annual “Hand of Friendship” tournament Saturday at the Old Kona Airport Park horseshoe courts. The tournament is sanctioned for singles play for NHPA cardholders, featuring four-six person divisions seeded by established handicap. The no handicap-cancellation play will begin at 8 a.m.
A $25 per person entry fee includes patches, plaques and prizes, and food and beverages. All players are eligible for cash prizes and gifts.

Pueo Kupuna golf fundraiser

Konawaena football festivities
The Konawaena Wildcats football team will hold a celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. April 27 at Patz Pies at Paparoni’s in Captain Cook. The buffet is at 2 p.m.; the honors and awards presentations begin at 3.
Tickets, which include the buffet and prize drawings, are $20 in advance and can be purchased from the Konawaena High School athletic department.
A limited number of tickets will be available the day of the event for $25 each.
Summer hoops camp at Konawaena
The 2014 Hawaii Island Hoops College-Prep Basketball Camp will be held June 16 to 20 at Konawaena High School.
The camp, under the direction of Andy Smith, offers skill development for youngsters and introduces them to college-style workouts and training.
Smith will be joined on the teaching staff by college coaches from the junior college, NAIA and NCAA levels.
The camp fee is $350 and includes a jersey and shorts, college coaching and instruction, meals and seminars on academic requirements, financial aid and athletic recruitment.
