A small craft advisory remains in effect for Hawaii Island waters, according to National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu.
Strong northeast winds continue to combine with a northwest swell to create conditions hazardous to small craft across all Hawaiian waters, according to the service. The advisory lasts until 4 p.m. Wednesday for windward waters of Hawaii Island. For the island’s leeward and southeast waters as well as the Alenuihaha Channel, the advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday.
Forecasters are calling for northeast winds to 25 knots 30 knots — or about 28 mph to 34 mph — and rough seas of 6 feet to 13 feet for Hawaii Island, according to the service.
A small craft advisory means that wind speeds of 25 knots to 33 knots and/or seas of 10 feet or greater are expected to produce conditions hazardous to small craft. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in these conditions, according to the service.
