A District Court judge ruled Friday the state has shown probable cause to charge a 22-year-old Captain Cook woman with attempted murder and a slew of other charges following a preliminary hearing Friday morning in Kealakekua.
Randi-Keli Banagan faces 20 charges, including attempted murder, for allegedly shooting a 26-year-old man March 28 in Holualoa.
The victim took the stand Friday morning, describing the incident and his injuries. Several police officers also testified, while a deputy prosecuting attorney worked to provide the basis for a mix of felony and misdemeanor charges.
Police arrested Banagan Saturday evening at a relative’s home on Captain Cook Road. Officers later searching the car she was driving found drug paraphernalia and two guns, neither of which were registered to Banagan.
On March 28, the 26-year-old reported to police he and his girlfriend had been walking down Waiono Ranch Road when they encountered a female acquaintance driving up the road, according to police. After the victim and woman in in the car got into a confrontation, the woman in the car — later identified as Banagan — reportedly shot him with a rifle.
