Queen Kaahumanu Highway will remain open to traffic during Sunday’s Lavaman Triathlon in Waikoloa. However, motorists should expect to wait periodically at specified crossings.
Between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, some 1,600 cyclists will compete in the 17th annual Lavaman Triathlon, according to triathlon organizers.
The crossings are located between mile marker 88, in the vicinity of Kukio Nui Drive, and the Waikoloa Beach Drive intersection, according to triathlon organizers. Motorists are advised to plan accordingly and to allow extra time.
The triathlon consists of a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike ride and a 10-kilometer run. Most of the events will be conducted on the grounds of Waikoloa Beach Resort.
