The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii Island until 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.
At 2:12 p.m., radar showed heavy showers falling at rates of one to two inches per hour on the slopes near the Saddle Road junction and Waikoloa, according to forecasters. Locations included in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Waikoloa Beach Resort and Puako.
Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action, according to forecasters. The public is advised to stay away from streams, draining ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
