National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu are cautioning of heavy rain for areas of Hawaii Island this afternoon.

At 2:20 p.m. Thursday, a few heavy showers had developed in the Saddle and upper windward elevations of Hawaii Island, according to the forecasters. The showers include brief, but heavy, downpours.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution because visibility may be reduced and ponding may occur on roadways, according to the service.

The showers are expected to dissipate as the land heats, forecasters noted.
