At 10:36 a.m., radar showed an area of heavy rain extending from six miles south of Hawi in North Kohala to Laupahoehoe in North Hilo, according to forecasters. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.
Other areas included in the advisory were Waipio Valley, Honokaa, Paauilo and Ookala, according to the service.
Forecasters said the advisory may be extended beyond 1 p.m. Friday.
The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous conditions because of ponding, poor braking action and reduced visibility, according to the service.
