National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu have issued a wind advisory for the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea summits through Thursday afternoon.
Forecasters called for northeast winds around 35 mph to 50 mph with localized gusts reaching 65 mph, according to the service. The advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday.
The Mauna Kea Summit Access Road is currently open, according to the Mauna Kea Weather Center. The current temperature at the summit as of 9:25 p.m. was 34.4 degrees.
A wind advisory means that sustained winds of at least 45 mph or gusts of 55 mph are expected. The service cautions that winds this strong can make difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
