At 11:33 a.m. on Feb. 14, South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a report of a robbery that allegedly occurred two hours earlier in the parking lot of Carlsmith Beach Park in Keaukaha, according to the Hawaii County Police Department.
A 58-year-old Hilo man reported he was loading his car after a swim, when a young man approached from behind and asked for help, according to police. When the victim turned around, the man punched him, grabbed his wallet and ran away. He may have gotten into a small white sedan heading toward Hilo.
The suspect was described as “local,” in his 20s, slim with a tan complexion, short black hair and unshaven, according to police. He was wearing dark surf shorts.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or knows the identity of the suspect is asked to call the department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
