Waikoloa Canoe Club is offering a family-friendly event at Anaehoomalu Bay from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and March 2. Participants must be able to swim. Roller derby team’s golf fundraiser
The Echo City Knockouts roller derby team is holding a golf tournament fundraiser Saturday at Makalei Golf Club. Registration is set for 7:30 a.m. Cost is $100 per golfer, which includes greens fee, continental breakfast and lunch, 18 holes of golf and gift bags. There will be prizes.

High school rodeo at Paniolo Park
The Hawaii High School Rodeo at Paniolo Park in Waimea begins at 8 a.m. March 1 and 2 and continues the first weekend of April and May. Saturday activities feature keiki and junior divisions; Sunday features high school participants. The state finals junior division is May 9 to 11 and high school division is June 12 to 15.
The competition is free, and donations are welcome. Food will be sold, benefiting the program.

Kawaihae canoe club youth program
The Kawaihae Canoe Club youth program, open to 11- to 18-year-olds, begins March 3.
The club holds practices at 3:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday at Kawaihae Harbor. A shuttle van picks up participants at 3 p.m. at Waimea Community Center, and returns them to the center at 5:30 p.m.

Gold Coast Little League softball
Gold Coast Little League is accepting registration for girls ages 7 to 16 from Kona, Waikoloa, Waimea, Kohala, Honokaa, Paauilo and Laupahoehoe. Sign-ups are held from 6 to 8 p.m. every Friday at Waimea Park. The season fee is $65 per player.

Waimea Cowboys football and cheer
Practices for the Waimea Cowboys football and cheer teams begin March 4 at Waimea School field.
Registration is open to children ages 5 to 15. The fee for participants who register before Feb. 28 is $80; $85 thereafter.
The requirements to play are: a 2014 registration packet, current sports physical, original birth certificate, copy of medical insurance card (front and back), second quarter report card, and photo of the student-athlete. Practices are held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The Kai Opua Canoe Club has announced its 2014 start dates.
Girls (12-18): 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, starting March 10
Boys (12-18): 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting March 11
Novice “Y,” coed, and under-12: 3:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting March 25
Women: Novice A and B (new paddlers), 4:30 p.m. Mondays, starting March 10
Open and age divisions: 5:30 p.m. Mondays, starting March 31
Women’s team meeting: 5:30 p.m., March 28, at the Kai Opua Canoe Halau
Practices are at Kamakahonu Beach near King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. New paddlers must have copies of identifications, and paddlers younger than 18 need parent or guardian signatures.

‘Leprechaun-Sham’ run/walk
Kealakehe High School’s Waverider Triathlon Club will present the “5K Leprechaun-A-Thon & Sham-Walk” at 7 a.m. March 15 at Magic Sands Beach Park.
Fees are $15 through March 8; $18 thereafter. Race bib pickups will be from 6 to 6:40 a.m. There will be a prize drawing and refreshments after the run.
