An array of quilts and fiber arts were on display Saturday in South Kona during “Na Nani O Ka Aina: The Beauties of the Land” hosted by the Society for Kona’s Education and Art.
The sale and show celebrates the natural beauty and wonders of Hawaii Island while showcasing the skill and design of quilts and other fiber art made by Big Island artists. The event continues today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at SKEA, located at 84-5191 Mamalahoa Highway in Honaunau.
All full- and part-time island residents were invited to submit entries to the show, whether they were professional or amateur quilters or fiber artists.
The theme of this year’s show refers specifically to the beauty of Hawaii Island. Awards are presented to quilt makers who best interpret the theme, as well as for the best overall creation, as determined by show attendees.
SKEA is a nonprofit organization founded in 1981 for the purpose of providing art, culture and educational opportunities for community members of all ages. With a focus on South Kona, the organization serves Hawaii Island by providing arts and educational opportunities through programs, projects and special events.
