Queen Kaahumanu Highway has reopened to both directions of travel between Mauna Lani and Puako Bay drives following a fatal two-car crash Wednesday morning near mile marker 71.5.

A 52-year-old Kailua-Kona man died in the 11:25 a.m. crash, according to the Hawaii County Police Department. Police have yet to release the man’s name.

The 52-year-old was operating a southbound pickup truck when he apparently crossed the highway’s center line and clipped the rear passenger side of a northbound four-door sedan, according to police. The truck then collided with an embankment.

The 52-year-old was transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Four occupants of the sedan were not injured, according to police.
