A preliminary hearing is slated Friday for a Ka‘u woman accused of felony robbery and assault after police say she threatened a woman with a hatchet while a man accompanying her stole a bag from the woman’s vehicle Sunday at South Point.
Trinety Crapser, 25, of Ocean View is facing charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, according to a complaint filed Wednesday by prosecutors in 3rd Circuit District Court. A preliminary hearing for Crapser, who was arraigned Wednesday, is slated for 10 a.m. Friday in District Court in Kona.
During her arraignment, the judge maintained bail at $62,000.
Crapser, police allege, exited a white Toyota sedan, wielded a hatchet and threatened a 47-year-old Discovery Harbor woman who was walking near her parked vehicle on South Point Road shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday. A scuffle subsequently ensued and the 47-year-old woman was able to separate Crapser from the hatchet and throw the weapon into brush on the side of the road.
According to police affidavits, Crapser demanded the victim turn over possession of her vehicle. During the scuffle, according to the affidavits, Crapser “bit (the victim) on her right forearm resulting in injury.”
A man, police allege, then exited the Toyota sedan, reached into the victim’s car and removed a bag that contained a laptop, cellphone and wallet. The man then reportedly fled in the Toyota after a passerby stopped to intervene. Crapser then allegedly entered the victim’s car, but was unable to start it. She then fled into the bushes, according to police.
Police investigation subsequently led to the identity and arrest of Crapser on Monday; she was charged Tuesday.
According to police affidavits, Crapser told police after her arrest that Kainoa Kahele-Bishop, 23, of Ocean View “made her do it.”
Police are looking to question Kahele-Bishop in connection with the incident. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
According to affidavits filed by police, Crapser has a felony conviction from 2011 on her record. A check of records of the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center showed Crapser has pleaded guilty to five offenses: second-degree assault, a Class C felony, in 2011; third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, in 2009; second-degree criminal trespassing, a petty misdemeanor and one count each misdemeanor and petty misdemeanor criminal contempt of court.
