Eva Pearl Akamu, 87, of Hilo died Jan. 16, 2014, at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. She was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Hilo.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. Jan. 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at 11:30 a.m. at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

Robert Flores Jr.
Robert Flores Jr., 57, of Hilo died Dec. 29, 2013, at his residence. Born Aug. 7, 1956, in Hilo, he was a head custodian for the state and member of Ka Uhane Hemolele O Ka Malamalama Church in Hilo.

Godfrey Saulo Felix, 54, of Kainaliu died Jan. 21, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 10, 1959, in Bisangol, Banayoyo, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was a landscaper at Puna Certified Nursery and Hokulia and member of Banayoyo Saranay Association.

Eugene Hu Date Lee, 83, of Glenwood died Dec. 27, 2013, at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired meat cutter at Progressive Meat Market and Safeway, a Vietnam War Air Force veteran, a member and landscaper at New Hope Hilo and a member of New Hope East Hawaii.

Thomas Keoki Morton, 36, of Kailua, Oahu, died Jan. 1, 2014, at Castle Medical Center. Born Aug. 23, 1977, in Hilo, he was a computer technician at EAH Housing in Mililani and former member of AYSO, Konawaena Baseball Team and Hui Kai Baseball Club.

Kathleen Mary Montvel-Cohen, 69, of Hilo died Jan. 21, 2014, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Racine, Wis., she was a retired professor of fine arts at the University of Guam and member of the Volcano Arts Center, East Hawaii Cultural Center, Hawaii Island Palm Society, Friends of the Panaewa Zoo and Lyman Museum.

Gus Yong, 96, of Volcano died Jan. 24, 2014, at his home. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired radar and electronics technician with the Federal Aviation Administration, a Navy veteran and member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees, Chinese Civic Club, past president of the Volcano Senior Citizens, past treasurer of the Volcano Community Association, a member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite Knight Commander Court of Honor bodies, past president of Hilo Shrine Club, past master of Kilauea Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, past patron of the Order of Eastern Star, past rainbow dad of Order of Rainbow for Girls, past Demolay dad of Order of Demolay and a member of Hilo Lodge No. 759 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Walter “Papa Smooth” Gouveia, 77, of Hilo, formerly of Honolulu, died Dec. 18, 2013, at his home. Born Feb. 2, 1936, in Honolulu, he was a retired electrician.
