The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii Island through 1:15 p.m. today.
At 11:12 a.m., radar showed heavy rain within a line of showers along the leeward Kohala and Kona coasts, according to forecasters. The line of showers is moving east at 15 mph.
A rain gauge at Kahua Ranch recently reported receiving 2/3 of an inch of rain within the past hour, according to forecasters.
Forecasters included the following Hawaii Island areas in the flood advisory: Waikoloa Village, Puuanahulu, Keauhou, Kealakekua, Saddle Road Junction, Waimea, Honaunau and Waikii.
The service cautioned the public to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
