Blake talks about golf, father on Gail show
Patrick Blake will be a guest on the Emily T Gail show. Patrick talks about his father, Champions Tour player Jay Don Blake, who earned a spot in the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. Blake also shares how his father helped to shape him into becoming a basketball coach and sports talk show host.
Gail also has an update on the Lavaman Waikoloa weekend, including the BikeWorks Sunset 5K Run/Walk on March 28 to benefit PATH Bike Safety Education program.

Hawaii Cycling Club offers Lavaman training
The Hawaii Cycling Club will host free training time trials on Feb. 15 and March 15 for participants training for Lavaman Waikoloa.
The Prologue time trial on Feb. 15 is a fast 10-mile course beginning at Kaiminani Drive and Queen Kaahumanu Highway at 8 a.m. Registration starts at 7.
The Kua Bay time trial on March 15 starts on Queen Kaahumanu Highway, just south of Waikoloa Beach Road at 8 a.m. The course is 12.2 miles with challenging hills.

Big Island Running Company offers training
The Big Island Running Company are offering guided speed workouts concluding March 8 — the week of the Run For Hops 10K/5K.
The training cycle will coincide with group runs Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m. Each runner will be supplied with a training program consisting of four scheduled runs.

Hawaii Racing Association survey
The Hawaii Racing Association is updating its membership list for 2014 to find out what types of motorsports Big Island residents are most interested to have at the proposed Kona Motorsport Park.
The HRA’s website shows potential uses for a 250-acre park and offers an online survey.

Ka‘u High looking for coaches
Ka‘u High School is looking for water polo and track coaches.
Applications can be picked up at the school’s main office. The school will be accepting application until Friday.

West Hawaii Hockey holding sign-ups
West Hawaii Hockey is holding sign-ups and practices for the 2014 season at 4:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Old Kona Airport Park hockey rink.
The registration fee for first-year players is $25, which includes equipment provided by the league.
An adult league plays at 4:30 p.m. Fridays and Sundays.

BIIF seeking water polo officials
The Big Island Interscholastic Federation is seeking water polo officials for the spring season. Experience is not required and officiating classes will be offered.

Hawaii Cycling Club’s Century Ride
The Hawaii Cycling club will host the Hawaii Century Ride on April 5 starting at Spencer Beach Park.
Participants will have a choice of three distances: 100 miles, 62 miles and 31 miles. There will be food and beverages on the course and festivities after the event concludes.

Westside Softball slow pitch tournament
The Westside Softball team will host the 13th annual Slow Pitch Softball Tournament on Jan. 24 to 26 at the Old Kona Airport Park.
The tournament will feature men’s and women’s divisions and offer team and individual awards. The event will also include a home run derby.
The entry fee per team is $300, with $100 due by Sunday. Limited slots are available.

Hawaii Cycling Club offers group rides
The Hawaii Cycling Club hosts classes for beginning and intermediate bicyclists Saturdays at the Old Kona Airport Park.
Each group is led by an experienced HCC member who maintains a pace appropriate for each group, keeps riders together and provides instruction.
Cyclists meet in the parking lot at 6:55 a.m. Riders generally travel north on Queen Kaahumanu Highway.
Beginners ride 10 to 12 miles with as many as three stops.
The intermediate group rides 36 miles with stops at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery, the scenic overlook on Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Kua Bay.

Parks and Recreation plans hoops league
The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a basketball league for children ages 9 to 14. League play is scheduled from Jan. 27 to March 13. Games will begin at 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.
The league is also looking for volunteer coaches and officials.
Registration forms are available between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Kekuaokalani Gymnasium.
