Aloha Quilters of Kona meets at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Wallace Hall at Christ Church Episcopal in Kealakekua.
The quilters work in traditional and Hawaiian styles and meet informally on the third Saturday of each month to share old and new ideas and techniques and to promote the art of quilting in the community. VFW auxiliary

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 12122, meets at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans Center in Kailua-Kona.
Upcoming events include a 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 31 return engagement by the Johnny Shot Band, along with a Mexican dinner for a $10 donation and $5 cover charge for the band.

King’s life celebrated
at Sunday event
A community celebration, program and potluck will commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. at noon Sunday at the Old Kona Airport Park’s Makeo Events Pavilion. Participants should bring a dish to share. This event is free and open to the public.
The celebration will include live entertainment, songs, elementary school presentations and an art display. Keynote speaker will be Gov. Neil Abercrombie.

Auntie’s Angels
seeks excess produce
Auntie’s Angels-Big Island is a nonprofit dedicated to decreasing the food deficiency for seniors living at Hualalai Elderly Housing. The organization is asking farmers and property owners to donate ripe or excess produce and drop it off from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the Keauhou Farmerºs Market at Keauhou Shopping Center.
