Molina scored 19 points and her younger sister Celena Molina added 13 as the Wildcats stopped Honokaa 54-41 on Wednesday night to extend their Big Island Interscholastic Federation basketball winning streak.
“Chanelle is an awesome player,” Honokaa coach Daphne Honma said. “We knew she would get her touches, but she just outhustled us and got some putbacks.”
Four nights after they beat fellow Division I heavyweight Hilo on the road, the Wildcats went to Honokaa Armory to hand the Dragons (5-1), the favorites in Division II, their first loss of the season. At 6-0, Konawaena is almost halfway toward its sixth consecutive unbeaten BIIF season.
Chancis Fernandez scored 13 points and Hunter Liftee added 11 for Honokaa, but Honma said her team was hampered by turnovers, most of which she felt were the result of unforced errors.
“We played well, but when you make mistakes against a good team, they make you pay,” she said.
Honokaa led 12-10 after the first period in what turned out to be a game of runs between last season’s two Hawaii High School Athletic Association runners-up.
Konawaena took control in the third quarter before answering Honokaa’s final run in the fourth with one of its own.
“We battled 90 percent of the game,” Honma said. “It was only the last 10 percent where we fell off. But that’s going to happen against a team like Konawaena.
“We battled and hopefully we learned what it’s like to compete against the best.”
Waiakea 50, Keaau 41
Shaila Apele scored 16 points and Nicole Antonio added 10 as the host Warriors won their second straight to even their mark at 3-3.
Taylor Pocock poured in 22 points for the Cougars (3-3) and Jasmine Segobia had 13.

Naai Solomon-Lewis and Tezrah Antonio each scored 15 points in Pahala as five Cowgirls reached double figures.
Jenni Fong added 13, Mohala Kaholoa’a-Kumukoa had 11 and Briana Harrison 10 for Kohala (5-0), which is the only undefeated team in Division II.
Denisha Navarro had a huge game for the Trojans (0-6), accounting for more than half of her team’s total with 35 points. Kerri Domondon added 11.

The visiting Vikings (4-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season behind 11 points apiece from Alexis Pana, Aliyah Pana and Sharlei Graham-Bernisto.
Macey Mokuhalii led the Daggers (0-6) with five points.
Hilo won the JV game 52-4.

Justas Gecas led the charge with 18 points and Ka Makani got contributions from all around to overwhelm the visiting Daggers.

Tolby Saito tallied 18 points for Pahoa (0-2), and Torrell Thomas had 10.
