More than 100 homeless or needy families enjoyed a free holiday dinner Monday afternoon at the New Thought Center of Hawaii in Kealakekua.
The meal was part of the festive Feed the Children celebration, which also featured live entertainment, activities and peace blessings. Baskets with food, personal hygiene products, school tools, toys, fishing tackle and skills-building gifts were provided to the families who frequent North and South Kona. The children also had an opportunity to talk story with Santa and make gifts for their loved ones at painting stations.
Feed the Children is a project of the Sanctuary of Mana Kea Gardens, a private nonprofit. The goal was to provide vulnerable children with nutritious food and teach their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals, as well as spread holiday cheer. The event was made possible, thanks to numerous generous donors, businesses and community groups.
