The Marshall Tucker Band to play Kona
Kona Brewing Co. is bringing back live music concerts to its Brewhouse Oasis, welcoming classic country legend The Marshall Tucker Band on Jan. 10.
Gates open and music begins at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. The band will also play Jan. 8 on Oahu, Jan. 9 on Kauai and Jan. 11 on Maui. The four-island tour, sponsored by Kona Brewing Co., will feature a rich tradition of classic Southern country rock. Formed in North Carolina, The Marshall Tucker Band has earned seven gold albums and three platinum albums.

Hawaii Island swing band nominated for Grammy Award
Kahulanui’s debut CD, “Hula Kui,” was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Regional Roots Category where Hawaiian music is now submitted. The band members all reside on Hawaii island.
The project was recorded in Waimea by Grammy Award winning producer Charles Michael Brotman.
Kahulanui band leader, Lolena Naipo Jr., found inspiration from his grandfather, Robert Kahulanui, who was a member of the Royal Hawaiian Band during an era when horns and drums were a part of Hawaiian music.
Band members who played on the album are: Naipo on rhythm guitar, lead vocals, arrangements, harmonies; Patrick Eskildsen on lead guitar, bass, background vocals; Robert Duke Tatom on ukulele, background vocals and Tim Taylor on drums and ipu; Jesse Snyder on tenor saxophone; Duncan Bamsey on alto and baritone saxophone; Garry Russell on trombone; Andrea Lindborg on trumpet; and Greg Sardinha, Paul Kim, Dwight Tokumoto on steel guitar.
The award ceremony will be held Jan. 26 in Los Angeles. The album was also a finalist in 2013 for the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards in three categories: Album of the Year, Group of Year and Most Promising New Artist of the Year.
Living Arts holds winter solstice concert
Living Arts Gallery hosts its annual gala winter solstice concert from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday with a live acoustic concert, chocolates and wine.
The concert will feature guitar and flute played by Russell Russell and Aja.
