Alzheimer’s Association holds workshops at Tutu’s House

The Alzheimer’s Association will present lectures Jan. 18 at Tutu’s House in Waimea.

The first topic will be “What Is Dementia,” a 9 a.m. workshop which reviews dementia, the symptoms, warning signs, misconceptions and potential treatments.

The movie “Iris” will be shown at 11 a.m. The film tells the story of English novelist Iris Murdoch’s descent into Alzheimer’s disease.

“Challenging Behaviors in Dementia” will be held at 1 p.m. This workshop explores possible causes and types of behaviors that may arise during the course of dementia as well as potential interventions.

Parade association names award winners

The Kailua-Kona Christmas Parade Committee has announced award winners for the 29th annual Christmas Parade with its theme “Kona Kine Christmas!” held Saturday. There were 77 entries with more than 2,000 individuals in the parade, and thousands of spectators.

Float: first place, Halau Kalaakeakauikawekiu; second, Solid Rock Ministries; third, Kahikolu Congregational Church

Marching: first place, A Bevy of Beautiful Bobbers; second, Kona Korean Mission Church; third, Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii-Kona

Keiki: first, Hoopa Volleyball Club; second, Ke Kula o Ehunuikaimalino; third, Innovations Public Charter School
