Crafts fair slated Saturday in Keauhou

Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay is the site for a holiday arts and crafts fair from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the convention center. The event features noted Big Island artists and artisans offering a locally made assortment of artwork and handicrafts, including oils, acrylics and and watercolors, ceramics, photography, pottery, jewelry, koa and tropical woodworks, quilts and pillows, blown glass and beadwork.

I Can Cope class scheduled Saturday

The American Cancer Society and Kaiser Permanente Kona clinic will hold the next free I Can Cope class for people facing cancer and their caregivers, family and friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kaiser Permanente Kona Clinic ground floor conference room, 75-184 Hualalai Road in Kailua-Kona.

The topic of discussion will be “communicating concerns and feelings,” which examines the emotions associated with a cancer diagnosis and how those feelings affect a person’s relationship with others, defines communication and clarifies its importance. Skills will be introduced to improve communication among patients, family members and health care providers. Featured speaker is Julie L. Sims, provider and counselor with Kaiser Behavioral Health Unit.

Registration is required by calling Kaiser Health Education at 243-6484. All cancer patients and their support members are welcome regardless of insurance and insurance type.

Meeting, concerts planned at VFW

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 12122 will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans Center.

The group also plans a concert by Johnny Shot &Band, along with Leah’s Italian dinner for a $10 donation and $5 cover charge from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 27. In addition, an early New Year’s Eve celebration is scheduled from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 31 with a performance by the Don’t Sit Down Band.
