Panel on women’s status meets in Kona

The Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Planning Department conference room, West Hawaii Civic Center, Building E, second floor. The public is welcome to attend.

Free Christmas movie shown Friday

“Christmas With The Chipmunks,” will be presented Friday at New Hope Waimea Christian Fellowship, 65-1078 Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea. Admission is free. Water, popcorn and hot cocoa will be provided, as well as bags of Christmas goodies for children.

Free turkey dinner offered Dec. 23

A free turkey dinner will be served for the hungry and needy from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 23 at New Thought Center of Hawaii, 81-6587 Mamalahoa Highway, Suite C-302 in Kealakekua.

Gift baskets with food and school supplies will be provided to the first 100 families as they leave. Entertainment will be offered and children will be have a chance to talk story with Santa.

Donations of food, gifts and cash contributions may be dropped off any time before the event at New Thought Center.

Co-Dependents Anonymous to meet

The Co-Dependents Anonymous women’s meeting is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at Unity Church sanctuary, 75-5722 Hanama Place in Kailua-Kona.

Co-Dependents Anonymous is a 12-step fellowship of men and women whose common purpose is recovery from codependence and the development and maintenance of healthy relationships. The nonprofit is supported by voluntary contributions of attending members.

Blood bank plans area drives in January

The Blood Bank of Hawaii will hold blood drives in January, which is National Blood Donor Month.

Drives are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 6 in the cultural hall at Church of Latter-day Saints, Kona Stake, 75-230 Kalani St.; 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 7 in the cultural hall at Church of Latter-day Saints, Waimea Ward, 65-1168 Kapiolani Rd.; and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 8 in the cultural hall at Church of Latter-day Saints, Kona Stake.

To be a blood donor a person must be in good health, 18 years of age or older (17 with signed Blood Bank of Hawaii parent/legal guardian consent form), weigh 110 pounds or more and have a valid photo ID with date of birth.
