9th annual Jingle Bell Beach Run on Dec. 22

Hawaii Sport Events presents the ninth annual Jingle Bell Beach Run at the Kailua Pier on Dec. 22. The Christmas-themed event starts at 7:30 a.m. and features a 5K- and 1-mile run/walk, and free Santa’s Keiki Dash for children 6 and under.

Entry fee is $25 for the 5K, $10 for 1-mile with late fees applied to race-day signups.

Keaau seeking head football coach

Keaau High School is seeking a varsity head football coach.

All interested parties can pick up an application at the school’s main office, Monday through Friday between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Kealakehe seeking head football coach

Kealakehe High School is seeking a varsity head football coach.

All interested parties can pick up an official application packet at the school’s athletic office.

Konawaena track and field meeting

Patrick Bradley, the newly appointed track and field coach at Konawaena, has scheduled an informational meeting at 2:45 p.m. today at the stadium for all students interested in participating in track this spring.

Coach Bradley will outline plans for offseason training and be available to provide more information about the track program.

Boys and girls baseball and basketball offered in Kohala

The Kohala Community Athletic Association is offering clinics and registration for upcoming baseball and basketball seasons for boys and girls ages 9 to 14 from 4 to 5 p.m. Dec. 9-12 at Hisaoka Gymnasium.

Registration is free and includes a uniform and clinic.

An additional signup will be held Dec. 18, but no clinic will be offered.

Konawaena to host softball clinic

Konawaena High School, in cooperation with the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation, will host a softball camp Dec. 13 to 15. The camp will provide instruction to improve the development of softball programs at all levels of youth softball. The clinic will feature fundamental instruction and game situational strategies.

Coach Bob Coolen, the head softball coach at UH-Manoa, along with former UH-Hilo coach Callen Perreira — currently the head softball coach at College of Southern Nevada — will lead the instruction.

Applications and information fliers are available from the athletic department at Konawaena.

The $75 fee includes softball jersey, drill guide and individual player evaluations.

Hawaii Cycling Club offers group rides

The Hawaii Cycling Club hosts classes for beginning and intermediate bicyclists Saturdays at Old Kona Airport Park.

Each group is led by an experienced HCC member who maintains a pace appropriate for each group, keeping riders together and providing instruction.

Cyclists meet in the parking lot at 6:55 a.m. Riders generally travel north on Queen Kaahumanu Highway.

Beginners ride 10 to 12 miles with as many as three stops.

The intermediate group rides 36 miles with stops at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery, the scenic overlook on Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Kua Bay.

Parks and Recreation plans youth basketball league

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a basketball league for children ages 9 to 14. League play is scheduled from Jan. 27 to March 13. Games will begin at 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.

The league is also looking for volunteer coaches and officials.

Registration forms are available between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Kekuaokalani Gymnasium.

Waimea tee ball and coach pitch season

Parks and Recreation Waimea, in partnership with Waimea Athletics, will host a coaches meeting today at the Waimea Community Center. All coaches are asked to attend.

Player registration will be $40, which includes uniform, hat, ball and team equipment. Sign up between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday, until Dec. 14, at Waimea Community Center.
