A packed house at Kekuaokalani gym in Kona was the venue Friday night for Just Scrap XXII.

A whopping 15 fights were on the card, including a title fight for the vacant 155-pound belt and the main event between Kyle Keeney of Texas and Chad Thomas of Hilo in the 240-pound weight class.

The opening fights provided hard-hitting action, including highlights from Kona’s Scotty Hao out of Average Joe’s gym winning by decision, a swift arm bar victory 32 seconds into the first round by Kanoa Akau out of Monkey House gym in Waimea, and Anthony Rivera from Honolulu winning by split decision and just edging Honokaa’s Kaeo Meyers in the 150-pound title fight.

In the first professional fight of the night, Tyler Kahihikolo won 2:36 into the first round by submission.

“We planned to take it wherever it goes,” Kahihikolo said after the fight. “I wanted to showcase my ground game and got a submission — my first one.”

The results from the two remaining professional bouts were not available at press time. Full results of the event will be included in the Sunday edition of West Hawaii Today.
