Tiger’s event moving to his old home course

Tiger’s event moving to his old home course

Tiger Woods is moving his World Challenge from his old home in California to his old golf course in Florida.

Woods said Friday that his unofficial event in December will move next year to Isleworth Country Club outside Orlando, Fla., where Woods honed his professional game from 1996 until moving away to south Florida two years ago.

The World Challenge had been at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., since 2001. The 18-man field remains popular with the players. And while the money is unofficial, the tournament in 2010 began awarding world ranking points.

Sherwood previously was part of the golf landscape as the longtime course for the Shark Shootout.

Starting next year, the World Challenge will benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation and the Tavistock Group.

Williams earns 5th player of year award

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Florida — Serena Williams has warned the rest of women’s tennis there is more to come from her after she was chosen WTA player of the year for the second year running and the fifth time overall.

Williams enjoyed one of the greatest seasons in WTA history.

She won 78 of 82 matches, the U.S. Open and French Open among 11 titles, and a record $12,385,572 in prize money.

Since February, she’s been the oldest No. 1 in WTA history. She’s now 32.

She says, “I have some areas where I can do a lot better for next year and I look forward to it. Overall I’ll remember the wins, but I also want to learn from my mistakes so I don’t repeat them.”

Williams was also player of the year in 2002, ‘08, ‘09 and ‘12.
