Stockings are available for those who want to participate, or items can be dropped off by Dec. 6 at A Hui Hou Crematory & Funeral Home, 74-5615 Luhia St. The funeral home will ship the stockings in time for Christmas.

Recommended items include hard candy, toiletries and DVDs.

Backyard chicken workshop planned

A workshop on raising backyard poultry and selling the eggs is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the Cooperative Extension Service office in Kainaliu. The workshop will cover topics such as candling and grading of eggs, washing and good handling practices, packaging and labeling, compliance with federal and state laws, and resources for the backyard egg farmer. Farmers are encouraged to bring their eggs to the workshop.

Fundraiser will bring kids to Kona from Japan

Fukushima Kids Hawaii needs to raise $30,000 to bring seven children and one chaperone to Kona from Dec. 20 to Jan. 2 to provide respite from radiation exposure.

Fukushima Kids Hawaii House in Kona opened Sept. 24 and is currently hosting one mother with two children from Fukushima, Japan. The house can host three families for up to three months.

A Nov. 30 fundraiser will include a Zumba dance party and flute concert at Hualalai Academy’s Bridge Building. Donations of artwork are sought for a silent auction. Tickets are $10 per person for each event and are available at Pacific Island Fitness, and will be sold from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday and Nov. 29 at Walmart.
