AARP driver safety class offered

AARP driver safety class offered

Kona Palisades Association is sponsoring an AARP driver safety class at 1 p.m. Nov. 25. The class will be held at the subdivision’s recreation center on lower Kaiminani Drive.

This refresher class for older drivers does not include driving or written tests. It covers subjects that may affect drivers as they age, such as hearing, eye sight and reflexes, as well as rules of the road. Insurance providers may give discounts to those who have taken the class.

Class size is limited. Call Reni and Roy Damron at 325-5422 to register.

Advisory council applicants sought

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Coral Reef Ecosystem Reserve is seeking applicants for two seats on its advisory council. Applications are due Dec. 31. Dog training seminar offered in Waikoloa

Carl Oguss of East Hawaii Dog Psychology Center will lead a dog training seminar at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hooko Park behind Waikoloa School. The class is sponsored by Waikoloa Neighborhood Watch.

Oguss will demonstrate techniques for solving each pet’s problems. Participants must hold on to their dogs or have them on a leash. He will also answer dog training questions and brief attendees on current dog laws.

Kona development meeting scheduled

The Kona Community Development Plan action committee meets at 2 p.m. Wednesday at West Hawaii Community Civic Center, Building E, second floor, in the Planning Department conference room.

Kailua-Kona Seniors meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai for a members-only Thanksgiving luncheon. Those attending are asked to bring the side dish or dessert they signed up to bring.

Waimea Montessori school holds open house

Hawaii Montessori School’s Waimea campus will hold an open house from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at 64-1058 Mamalahoa Highway. Families with children 15 months to 6 years old are invited to visit the school.
