A 34-year-old man is in police custody following a reported fatal stabbing Tuesday afternoon in Puna.

Hawaii Island police responded about 3:20 p.m. to a report of a stabbing on Pilo Street in the Eden Roc subdivision, according to the Hawaii County Police Department. Upon their arrival, they found an unresponsive 32-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at 11:11 p.m.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to police. 

Police took the 34-year-old man into custody, but were not immediately able to verify his identity. He was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and taken to the Hilo police cellblock before being transferred to Hilo Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries, according to police.
