Wobble Gobble set for Thanksgiving Day

Big Island Running Company will host the ninth annual Walua Road Wobble Gobble fun run and walk at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28. The event starts at the Walua Road trailhead on Lako Street, just mauka of the Chevron gas station.

Participants may run or walk a 1-mile, 3.5-mile or 6.4-mile course.

The event is free, but participants are asked to each donate two cans of food to the Hawaii Food Bank. Volunteer help and postrace refreshment donations are also welcome.

Kona Sailing Club annual Wahine Regatta

Kona Sailing Club will host its 21st annual Wahine Sailing Weekend Nov. 16 and 17.

Registration for a clinic led by female champion sailor Jennifer Gillette begins at 9 a.m.

Kona Sailing Club skippers will share their boats for an on-the-water practice following the clinic until 3 p.m. The cost for the clinic is $10 for club members; $15 nonmembers.

Skipper and crew meetings begin at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 17. Races begin at 11:50 a.m.

Wahine will sail two races and end the afternoon with heavy pupu and an awards celebration at the clubhouse.

Gail show features Dennis Rose Golf Tournament

The Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Division II Golf Tournament, held recently at Waikoloa Beach Resort, is featured on the Emily T Gail Show, which is available under “lineup” at espnhawaii.com and as an iTunes podcast.

Tournament hosts, the University of Hawaii at Hilo, took home the team title and Vulcan golfer Chris Shimomura took home individual honors.

Chris Hunt of Big Island Golf Works and PGA professional Peter Abarcar and Dick Gillette — winner of the recent Waikoloa Village Amateur — are also guests.

Gail will also share information on the PATH Traffic Safety classes for adult bicyclists.

Parks and Recreation plans youth basketball league

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a basketball league for children ages 9 to 14. League play is scheduled from Jan. 27 to March 13. Games will begin at 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.

The league is also looking for volunteer coaches and officials.

Registration forms are available between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Kekuaokalani Gymnasium.

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a volleyball league for children ages 8 to 14. League play is scheduled from Nov. 12 to Dec 17. Games will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Registration forms are available between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Kekuaokalani Gymnasium.

An informational meeting is scheduled at today at 6:30 p.m. in the multipurpose area of the gym.

Waimea tee ball and coach pitch season

Parks and Recreation Waimea, in partnership with Waimea Athletics, will host a coaches meeting Nov. 19 at the Waimea Community Center. All coaches are asked to attend.

Player registration will be $40, which includes uniform, hat, ball and team equipment. Sign up between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Nov. 27 to Dec. 14, at Waimea Community Center.

The Hawaii Cycling Club offers group rides for beginning and intermediate bicyclists. Meet at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Old Kona Airport Park.

KBXtreme to host scholarship bowling tournament

KBXtreme will host a bowling tournament Nov. 10 to benefit the Miss Kona Coffee scholarship.

The tournament is open to bowlers of all levels. The format is nine-pin, no-tap singles, 100 percent handicap. A Kona Coffee Festival button is required to participate.
