Chamber music concerts begin Sunday
Lovers of classical chamber music have opportunities to hear their favorite music performed by Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble in the West Hawaii.
Two years ago, Roland Maurer, a retired oboist, bassoonist, teacher and conductor, moved with his wife, Ursula Hesse, from Switzerland to the Big Island. Here, he met instrumentalists and singers who were eager to work on music and perform. Maurer the founded Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble. The series of six monthly concerts is being offered to the communities as a mahalo. A donation is welcome to cover expenses and would help to initiate another series in the future.
The first concert is dedicated to Baroque music with pieces ranging from early Baroque, around 1600, to the end of the period, around 1760. Maurer’s partners will be Garrett Webb from Kailua-Kona on recorder, Kathy Fraser from Waikoloa on violoncello and Hesse on the harpsichord.
Concert dates include 4:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Hualalai Academy in Kailua-Kona, 5 pm. Nov. 16 at Waikoloa Community Church in Waikoloa and 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at St. James Episcopal Church in Waimea.
