Aguirre’s work displayed at
several venues
Hawaii Island artist Amber Aguirre recently returned from a monthlong residency at the Benyamini Contemporary Ceramics Center in Tel Aviv, Israel, funded by the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts.
“The work I created (in Tel Aviv) consists of small porcelain sculptures reflecting my time and experiences in Israel which coincided with our country’s near military strike on nearby Syria,” Aguirre said. “It took a while to get used to seeing rifle-toting military personnel everywhere and get comfortable wearing of a gas mask for a short part of my stay.”
A collection of her art, together with the work of 10 additional artists, is on display through Nov. 24, in the Artists of Hawaii exhibit at the Honolulu Museum of Art. Aguirre’s work is also on display at the 46th Hawaii Craftsmen Statewide Juried Exhibition at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, through Saturday.
Aguirre’s work can also be seen at the Sculptural Objects and Functional Art Expo through Wednesday at Navy Pier, Chicago; Sunday through Dec. 4 at Hawaii’s Modern Masters, Luxury Row, Honolulu; and from Nov. 22 to Jan 5 at Matchbox Plus IX, Cedar Street Galleries, Honolulu.
