Oliver “Ollie” J. Amend, 85, of Hilo died Oct. 23, 2013, at home. Born Aug. 25, 1928, in Seward, Alaska, he was a milkman, worked construction and was on the Seward Volunteer Fire Department, Ambulance Corporation and City Council.
Friends may call 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 2 at New Hope Christian Fellowship in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service and celebration of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Cecelia Amend of Hilo; daughter, Nancy Amend of Alaska; son, Oliver Amend Jr. of Alaska; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kikuye Shiraki Kohashi, 84, of Hilo died Oct. 20, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kona, she was a retired Extension home economist and 4-H agent with the University of Hawaii at Manoa, former home economics teacher and member of Church of the Holy Apostles, Waiakeawaena Kumiai, Zonta Club of Hilo and national extension associations.

Irene Minor
Irene D. Minor, 94, of Hilo, died Oct. 12, 2013, at Pohai Malama Hospice of Hilo. Born in Lowell, Mass., she was one of the first “Winnie the Welders” and “Rosie the Riveters” at the Fore River Shipyard in Boston, a sergeant in the Woman’s Army Corps in Europe during World War II and member of the American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hilo Elks Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Hawaii Humane Society and past president of the Hilo Woman’s Club.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. Nov. 5 at Church of The Holy Apostles for a 10:30 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers. Donations may be made to Hospice of Hilo, Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Hawaii Humane Society.

Kazuo “Ken” Fukui, 77, of Hilo died Oct. 25, 2013, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born March 13, 1936, in Waipunalei, he was a retired truck driver and laborer for the Department of Transportation State Highways Division, crane operator for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co. and member of Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church in Keaukaha.

William “Pikinini” John Haena, 70, of Kapaau died Oct. 14, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on July 8, 1943, in Hilo, he was a Hawaii County lifeguard, private swim coach and American Red Cross member.

Raymond “Fish” Wilbur Dedman, 64, of Pahala died Oct. 14, 2013, at Ka‘u Hospital. Born Feb. 7, 1949, in Honolulu, he was a fisherman and former high school football coach.

Kimiyo Kondo, 96, of Kealakekua died Aug. 26, 2013, at her caregiver’s residence. Born Oct. 15, 1916, in Captain Cook, she was a homemaker and member of Kona Hongwanji Mission.

Gary Kaysinger
Gary Lew Kaysinger, 64, of Kapaau died Oct. 17, 2013, at his home. Born Feb. 16, 1949, in Watsonville, Calif., he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants, an educator, football coach, adolescent counselor, co-owner of an ocean sport company on Maui and was active in philanthropic work around the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii.
A private celebration of life will be held.
