Holualoa Village will help kick off the 43rd annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival Saturday with its 15th annual Coffee & Art Stroll. Hosted by the Holualoa Village and Kona Coffee Farmers associations, the all-day event features more than 30 area coffee farms.

Holualoa Village will help kick off the 43rd annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival Saturday with its 15th annual Coffee & Art Stroll. Hosted by the Holualoa Village and Kona Coffee Farmers associations, the all-day event features more than 30 area coffee farms.
The village’s shops and art galleries will each present a Kona farm and its products for the public to taste and purchase. The free samples of 100 percent Kona coffee will be available from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The town’s fine art galleries feature works from a wide selection of local artists and artisans. Some galleries will have artists working out front during the stroll.
Sponsored by the Holualoa Inn, Mountain Thunder Kona Coffee and the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, the annual event will be spread out along a half mile of Mamalahoa Highway between the Imin Center and Holualoa School. Free parking will be available at the village parking lot and Imin Center.
This year, along with the People’s Choice award, the Kona Coffee Farmers Association will present a chef’s choice award.
In addition to free samples of the best coffee in the world, visitors will enjoy a variety of food offerings from pastries to full meals at the award-winning Holuakoa Gardens & Cafe.

Harrison leading meditation programs
Gavin Harrison will conduct a “Walking Meditation in the Wild” in North Kohala from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Iole, the historic Bond homestead at 53-496 Iole Road, Kapaau. Refreshments will be served. Bring hat, hiking shoes, sunscreen, bottled water, a towel or cushion for rest stops, rain gear and mosquito repellent. “Awakening to the Deepest Truth of Who We Are: a Gathering With Gavin Harrison” is scheduled from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Waimea Events Salon, 66-1664 Waiaka St., Waimea. Sitting and walking meditation, dialogue and inquiry are offered in a nondenominational group setting. Experienced and beginning meditators are welcome. Bring a meditation cushion. The Blood Bank of Hawaii will hold blood drives next week on the Big Island.
Drives are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at The Church of Latter-day Saints, Kona Stake Center cultural hall, 75-230 Kalani St.; 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, The Church of Latter-day Saints, Waimea Ward cultural hall, 65-1168 Kapiolani Road.
To be a blood donor a person must be in good health, 18 years of age or older (17 with signed Blood Bank of Hawaii parent/legal guardian consent form), weigh 110 pounds or more and have a valid photo ID with date of birth.
