Flood advisory in effect for leeward Big Island

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the leeward side of the Big Island through 6:15 p.m. A flash flood watch remains in effect until 6 p.m. for Hawaii Island.

The service said radar showed heavy showers and thunderstorms over leeward and interior portions of the island. At 3:10 p.m., the heaviest rain was located over the Kona slopes and coast, from Kailua-Kona to Hawaii Ocean View Estates. The heavy showers were moving southwest at 10 mph.

Other locations included in the advisory were Keauhou, Kealakekua, Holualoa and Captain Cook.
