Shinse Kise

Shinse Kise, 91, of Kohala died Oct. 2, 2013, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in North Kohala, he was a retired sugar plantation supervisor for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., an employee of the former Kohala Sugar Co. and former Hilo Coast Processing Co., a World War II Army veteran and member of Kohala Hongwanji Mission, Kohala Okinawa Kenjin Kai Club and Kohala Senior Citizens.

A family service begins at 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel with a 3 p.m. service. Cremation follows. Friends may call at 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at Kohala Hongwanji Mission for a 2 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary offerings or flowers.

He is survived by sons, Cyrus (Mae) Kise of Hilo, Edwin (Christine) Kise of Kohala; daughters, Georgia (Duwayne) Abe of Mililani, Oahu, Lydia (Michael) Kinoshita of Kaneohe, Oahu; brothers, Shintoku (Harue) Kise of Kohala, Shinso (Sally) Kise of Gardena, Calif.; sisters, Kazuko Kaneshina of Gardena, Calif., Kikue (Michael) Takaki of Woodinville, Wash., Tomie (Dee Jay) Brady of Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Matsuko Matsumura

Matsuko Matsumura, 89, of Hilo died Oct. 4, 2013, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kalaoa, Papaikou, she was the co-owner of the former Matsumura Poultry and Anthurium Farm and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Kyodan and Buddhist Women’s Association.

Friends may call at 10 am. Oct. 25 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers and monetary donations.

She is survived by husband, Yasuo Matsumura of Hilo; brother, Shigeo Mihara of Honolulu; sisters, Sakae Ota of Papaikou, Yuriko (Akira) Omonaka of Pepeekeo, Nobuko Nishioka of Hilo, Momoyo Laborada of Kailua, Oahu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosita Baruela

Rosita “Etang” Baruela, 86, of Hilo died Oct. 9, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 27, 1927, in, Bangued, Abra, Philippines, she was a retired factory worker for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. and member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Oct. 26, 2013, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial is at Ookala Catholic Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Felicidad Laronal of Papaaloa, Julietta Estencion of Las Vegas; stepdaughters, Pearlita (Ray) Line and Elizabeth Baruela, both of Hilo; stepson, Emeo (Francisca) Baruela of Pahala; caregiver, Miriam Guerrero of Hilo; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ruth Hammond

Ruth “Luki” Budge Hammond, 58, of Corvallis, Ore., died Oct. 15, 2013, in Waikoloa. Born Feb. 13, 1955, in Lihue, Kauai, she was a private school teacher at Iolani Intermediate and Hawaii Preparatory Academy and a homemaker.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at her residence at 65-1546 Kawaihae Road, Waimea, for a service. Donations may be made in her memory to North Hawaii Hospice.

She is survived by husband, Wayne Hammond of Corvallis, Ore.; son, Peter Hammond of Corvallis, Ore.; daughter, Eleanor Hammond of Corvallis, Ore.; stepdaughters, Jennica Hammond and Lindy Hammond, both of Billings, Mont., Jillian Hammond of Lake Stevens, Wash.; brother, Alexander (Glen) Budge III of Waikoloa; one stepgrandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Darrlyn-Lee Kupahu-Canon

Darrlyn-Lee Leinaala Kupahu-Canon, 47, of Mountain View died Sept. 12, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a secretary for the state Highways Division.

A celebration of her life will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 26 at the Makuu Farmers Market off Highway 130 in Pahoa. Luncheon to follow. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Richard Canon of Mountain View; sons, Michael (Jessica) Canon, Likeke Canon and Kona Canon, all of Mountain View; daughter, Tiani Canon of Mountain View; mother, Gwendolyn Kupahu of Pahoa; sister, Jaime (Gary) Kahalepo of Las Vegas; brother, Kimo Kupahu Jr. of Waimanalo, Oahu; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Joann Bernadette Rodrigues, 66, of Hilo died Oct. 13, 2013, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Hilo, she was a night audit clerk.

Mary Alice Santos, 88, of Papaaloa died Oct. 4, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 11, 1925, in Hilo, she was a retired cook for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. and member of Family Christian Center and the Puerto Rico Independent Club.

Panana Alden

Panana Widemann Alden, 67, of Kailua-Kona is survived by a daughter Luika (Trevor) Judd Wright. The daughter’s name appeared incorrectly in an earlier published obituary because of information supplied to West Hawaii Today.

Francis Woodbury

Francis “Frank” George Woodbury of Kailua-Kona is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce (Suzanne Couture) Woodbury of Las Vegas. The daughter-in-law’s name was left out of an earlier obituary because of information supplied to West Hawaii Today.

Leticia Tabudlo

Leticia Dangilan Mangabat Tabudlo, 80, of Waimea died Oct. 14, 2013, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born July 8, 1933, in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines, she was a retired from the Hyatt Regency Waikoloa housekeeping/laundry department and member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Oct. 26, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial is at the Honokaa Catholic Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

Pedar Christian Wold, 78, of Hilo died Oct. 16, 2013, at Hospice of Hilo Paohai Malama Facility. Born in Minnesota, he was a retired attorney, minister, an Army veteran and member of Christ Lutheran Church and Hawaii Concert Society board.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Oct. 26 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hilo for a celebration of life. Fellowship follows. Family requests casual attire be worn. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Christ Lutheran Memorial Fund.

Charlotte Louise Alameda, 73, of Hilo died Oct. 18, 2013, at home. Born in Hilo, she was co-owner of Alameda Plumbing, match maker of the Waiakea Boxing Club, a rental property manager, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Hawaii and former member of the Hilo Chapter of the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association.

Chirio Miyose, 91, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 16, 2013, at his caregiver’s residence. Born June 1, 1922, in Holualoa, he was a retired yardman and member of Daifukuji Soto Mission, Bank Kumi and Kumamoto Kenjin Kai.

Donald Butcher

Donald “Don Tiki” James Butcher, 63, of Keaau and formerly of Kauai and Oahu died Oct. 14, 2013, at his residence. Born in St. Joseph, Mich., he was a handyman and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by wife, Madeleine Butcher of Keaau; stepdaughter, Carol Peahu of Kauai; mother, Marie Butcher of St. Joseph, Mich.; one nephew.
