Farmers group
plans potluck
Hawaii Farmers Union United, Kona chapter will hold a “locavore” potluck from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Queen Emma Community Center at Christ Church Episcopal, Konawaena High School Road, Kealakekua. Bring a favorite dish to pass.
Kona Councilman Dru Kanuha will discuss West Hawaii and the family farm at 3:30 p.m. and Jana Bogs will talk about growing food for maximum nutrition at 4 p.m.

Waimea homesteaders meeting Thursday
The Waimea Hawaiian Homesteaders’ Association meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Kuhio Hale in Waimea to discuss its annual fundraising luau supporting the infrastructure of a local park and cemetery.
Over the past few years, the association has been pursuing projects community members have determined are important to the development of Waimea. Because of the limited state and county lands surrounding Waimea, the community lacks parks and recreation centers and has limited plots within its current cemeteries. The alternative is to build on Hawaiian Home Lands a local park open to all Hawaii Island residents and a cemetery for those of Hawaiian descent.
The association founded in 1952 is a nonprofit, community-based, socio-economic development organization for the benefit of all Native Hawaiians promoting the advancement of self-sufficiency, cultural education and preservation and the development of a preferred master plan of the Waimea Nui Region Hawaiian Homestead Community.
