Fire Prevention Week event is Saturday

The Hawaii Fire Department invites the public to join it in celebrating West Hawaii Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme, “Prevent Kitchen Fires!” focuses on one of the leading causes for residential home fires. By educating the public on fire safety, the department hopes to prevent some of the suffering and tragedy caused by fire.

A public display, events and demonstrations will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kailua-Kona Walmart. The department also challenges businesses and organizations to enter a team in the bucket brigade event, beginning at 11 a.m. Five-person teams pass buckets of water from person to person. The team that successfully manages to transport the most water to the “fire” is declared the winner. Call Capt. Todd at 323-4761 for sign up. There is no entry fee and early registration is recommended.
