Sadako Muramoto

Sadako “Mary” Muramoto, 87, of Papaikou died Oct. 5, 2013, in Hilo. Born Oct. 7, 1925, in Papaikou, she was a retired surgical nurse for the former Hilo Hospital and a member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission, Honomu Henjoji Mission (Honomu Odaishisan), Tenrikyo Big Island Church, Hawaii Government Employees Association Retirees and Saint Francis Nursing Association.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by brother, Glenn Muramoto of Las Vegas; sister, Roxana (Lester) Uchima of Hilo; a nephew; a niece; grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

Rebecca Hopfe

Rebecca “Becky” Lahilahi Hopfe, 90, of Hilo died Oct. 8, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 26, 1923, in Kealakekua, she was retired from Uncle Billy’s Hilo Bay Hotel and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keaukaha Ward.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Oct. 22 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, William Hopfe of Hilo; daughters, Laverne Boloson of Honolulu, Alice (Kevin) Gray and Rana Hopfe, both of Hilo, Brenda (Tom) Dorsey of Florida, Leila (Jason) Ryusaki of Waimea, Nora Hao of Kona; stepsons, William (Carol) Hopfe and Jeffrey (Laurie) Hopfe, both of Honolulu; stepdaughters, Joyce Hopfe of Nevada, Gwendolyn (Edward) Collier of Virginia, Claudette Hopfe of Honolulu; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; one great-great-grandchild.

Robert Shwery

Robert “Rob” George Shwery, 87, of Hilo died Sept. 26, 2013, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born Aug. 17, 1926, in Chicago, he was a former film editor.

A graveside urn committal service will be held at noon Oct. 22 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.

He is survived by sons, Richard Shwery, Brian Shwery; sisters, Mary Cox, Esther Hott, Roselle Pringle; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley Griffin

Shirley Ann Griffin, 67, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 27, 2013. Born March 12, 1946, in Madison, Wis., she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at noon Oct. 27 at the Olson residence in Kailua-Kona for a service. A private burial service will be held Oct. 28 at Veterans Cemetery No. 2 in Hilo.

She is survived by son, Donald (Guandolene) Olson of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Shannon Olson of Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews.

Umeyo Katahira

Umeyo Katahira, 92, of Hilo died Sept. 26, 2013, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a retired seamstress with the former Kamehameha Garments, also retired from Sky Chef in Hilo and was a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hilo Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association, Hiroshima Kenjin Kai and the Nohea Kumiai.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Nov. 2 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by son, Lawrence Katahira of Hilo; three grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen Alden

Helen Alden, 67, of Kailua-Kona died at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. She was born in Honolulu.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 9 at Hulihee Palace in Kona. Family requests casual, aloha attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by son, Gerrit Judd; daughter, Luika (Trevor) Wright; brothers, Panaewa (Rachel) Widemann, Arthur (Sibi) Hoke; sister, Arvilla (Carl) Wong; three grandchildren.

Diane Kuamoo

Diane L. Kuamoo, 64, of Keaukaha died Oct. 5, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 30, 1949, in Hilo, she was employed by CW Maintenance, Diamond Head Papaya, Life Care Center of Hilo, Hilo Hotel, Naniloa Resorts and Floral Connection.

Private services were held. Condolences can be made by calling 935-1404 during evening hours.

She is survived by husband, Gregory Kuamoo of Keaukaha; daughter, Michelle (Shawn) Icari of Hawaiian Paradise Park; son, Cade (Lindy) Kuamoo of Kaumana; brothers, Manuel (Donna) Moniz and Wesley (Deborah) Moniz, both of Keaukaha, Glen (Tammy) Moniz of Waiakea Uka; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Frances Waddell

Frances “Bernadine” Waddell, 86, of Ocean View died Oct. 10, 2013. Born May 11, 1927, in California, she was an administrative staff member of a mental health facility and attended the Jehovah’s Witness Church.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by sons, John Waddell of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Robert Waddell of Longmont, Colo.; daughter, Linda (Kim) Moore of Apple Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Teruo Yamamoto

Teruo Yamamoto, 84, of Hilo died Oct. 5, 2013, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born Sept. 29, 1929, he was the retired proprietor of Teruo Yamamoto Painting Contractor.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Jane Shizuko Yamamoto of Hilo; daughters, Loraine (Henry) Terada of Hilo, Susan (Russell) Kagohara of Redondo Beach, Calif.; brother, Hisao (Misako) Yamamoto of Gardena, Calif.; sisters, Sachiko Mitsuyoshi and Helen (Joe) Tanaka, both of Hilo, Amy (David) Ogawa of San Francisco; three grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Peter Dillingham

Peter Harding Dillingham, 92, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 12, 2013, at his home. Born March 4, 1921, in Honolulu, he was a retired investment manager, steel guitarist who accompanied Gabby Pahinui, Elmer Lee, Sol Bright and numerous other local recording artists.

A private graveside service was held at Oahu Cemetery.

He is survived by wife, Pamela Dillingham of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Leslie (Tony) Freyberg of Connecticut, Jennifer Loper of California; sons, Harold Dillingham of Wisconsin, Martin Colbert of California, Fred Johnson and Matt (Kim) Loper, both of Kailua-Kona; five grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
