Horseshoe club begins play Thursday

The Kona Horseshoe Pitchers Club will start its eight-week fall sanctioned doubles league Thursday. All league games are played from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursdays at the Palm Court horseshoe pits behind the tennis courts at Old Kona Airport Park. League fees are $5 per week. IKL championships Nov. 2 in Kona

The Kona Branch of the International Karate League will host its ninth annual IKL Karate Championship from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Kekuaokalani Gymnasium.

IKL branches from Hilo, Paauilo, Honokaa, Waimea, North Kohala, Waikoloa, Captain Cook, Kailua-Kona, Kealakehe, Pahala, Keaau, Oahu and California will attend.

The tournament will feature competition in kata, forms; kumite, sparring; and kobudo, weaponry, for children, teenagers and adults.

The free tournament is open to the public.

Beginner golf classes for women

Golf professional Rob Wohlgemuth is offering a five-week series of beginner golf lessons for women at the Makalei Golf Club beginning Oct. 26.

Class meets from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturdays.

Cost of instruction is $50. Call Wohlgemuth at 937-0130 to enroll.

Domino’s plans golf tournament to benefit St. Jude

Domino’s Pizza in Waimea is sponsoring a benefit golf tournament for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on Nov. 2 at Makalei Golf Club.

The tournament will be a four-person net scramble format, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Entry fee is $125 per player. To sign up, stop by Domino’s Pizza in Waimea, or call Tournament Coordinator Charmaine Mood at 756-2743 today.
