Rumley Gallery presents “The Circle of Fire in the Sky,” a fine art photography show by Kirk Shorte. A public reception with the artist is planned from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the gallery located inside King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Pupu will be served.

Shorte is a self-taught photographer who grew up in Belmar, N.J. As a child he spent hours outside trying to photograph the stars. After a long career in Silicon Valley, he moved to West Hawaii in 2004, where he revived his love of photography and continued to hone his skills.

Shorte’s photography is distinguished by his use of highly saturated colors, crystal clarity and the high dynamic range bracketing technique. He uses it as a tool to bring out more detail in his images. Together, these techniques create the images that make his photos appealing.

He owns Shortini Photography, but has worked as the marketing director for Jack’s Diving Locker and a freelance photographer for West Hawaii Today. His photographs are on the covers of two books and he is the principle photographer for the Hui Kaoo Hawaiian Music Concert Series in Keauhou.
