Met HD season opens

The Metropolitan Opera Live in HD series, presented by Regal Cinemas and Hoku Concert Series, commences at 12:55 p.m. Saturday with the fateful romance, “Eugene Onegin” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. An encore screening is slated for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are available at the Makalapua Cinema box office or online at fathomevents.com or fandango.com.

Kahilu galleries featuring two shows this month

The Kahilu galleries will present two exhibitions this month in Waimea.

Big Island resident and visionary artist Jan Salerno will display “Painted Prayers” in mixed media, in the Hamakua Gallery.

Bonnie Cherni, a Hawaii Island artist and origami expert, will present some of her large origami pieces in the Kohala Gallery. Cherni has been involved in Kahilu for many years, teaching origami for its summer arts program and at the recent family fun day. “Epic Origami” features fun and fanciful life-sized animals made from paper.

SKEA to host
botanical art workshop

Botanist and artist Linda Van Vorobik will present “An Introduction to Botanical Art” from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 21 through 25 at Society for Kona’s Education and Art, located between mile markers 105 and 106 on Mamalahoa Highway in Honaunau.

The five-day workshop costs $200.
