Project Grad planning begins Tuesday

Project Grad 2014 will hold its first meeting of the school year at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Kealakehe High School library work room. Any community members interested are encouraged to join. Visit khsprojectgrad.com for volunteer information.

Culinary students offering lunches

Culinary arts students at the University of Hawaii Center at West Hawaii will serve lunches this semester. First-year students are offering European cuisine on Wednesdays, Oct. 9 through Nov. 20, except Nov. 6. Second-year students will offer Asian cuisine on Fridays, Oct. 11 through Dec. 6, except Nov. 8.

Lunches are $18 per person and served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For reservations, call 969-8802 on Monday the week of the luncheon, starting at 8 a.m. Cancellations or changes should be made 48 hours prior to reservation date.

Ford addresses Rotary Club of Kona Mauka

County councilwoman Brenda Ford will speak at Rotary Club of Kona Mauka’s meeting at noon Tuesday at Teshima’s restaurant in Honalo. Ford and Mary Teshima will be inducted as honorary members of the club.

Cost of lunch is $18 and guests are welcome.

Underpants Run to support charities

The Underpants Run organization will support Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii and Ahuena Heiau with this year’s run scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday at Pacific Vibrations on Alii Drive. VASH Hawaii encourages participation in this 16th annual pre-Ironman event that began as a protest against runners appearing in public places without proper clothing.

Interested participants may visit underpantsrun.org for more information or to buy Underpants Run clothing that will also benefit the charities.

Brain Injury Support group to meet

The Brain Injury Support group meets from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawaiian Rehab Services on Hualalai Road in Kailua-Kona. Sherrye Grotte, a survivor of a brain injury from a moped accident, will describe her injury sequelae and subsequent rehabilitation journey.

Invited are all brain injury, stroke or other neurotrauma survivors, their families and caregivers, interested professionals and the public.
